Job Description:

  • Physical therapists help patients with injuries and chronic health conditions regain their range of motion, manage their pain, and improve their quality of life.
  • PTs play a critical role not only in treating musculoskeletal conditions but also in educating patients about staying fit and preventing future injuries.
  • Reports to Unit Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plans and administers medically prescribed physical therapy treatment for patients suffering from injuries, or muscle, nerve, joint, and bone diseases, to restore function, relieve pain, and prevent disability.
  • Review the physician’s referral and the patient’s condition and medical records to determine the physical therapy treatment required.
  • Communicate appropriately and clearly to charge nurses, co-workers, and physicians.
  • Enter and verify orders in the computer system.
  • Tests and measures patient’s strength, motor development, sensory perception, functional capacity, and respiratory and circulatory efficiency, and records findings to develop or revise treatment programs.
  • Plans and prepares written treatment programs based on the evaluation of patient data.
  • Administers manual exercises to improve and maintain function.
  • Administers treatments involving the application of physical agents, using equipment, such as hydrotherapy tanks and whirlpool baths, moist packs, ultraviolet and infrared lamps, and ultrasound machines.
  • Evaluate the effects of treatment at various stages and adjust treatments to achieve maximum benefit.
  • Administers massage, and traction to relieve pain.
  • Records, treatment, response, and progress in patients charts.
  • Instruct patient and family in treatment procedures to be continued at home.
  • Orients, instructs and directs work activities of assistants and aides.
