SUMMARY:
Physical therapist responsibilities include examination, diagnosis, and creation,
Implementation, and adjustment of a plan of care. Patient examinations in physical therapy include, but are not limited to, testing of muscle function, strength, joint flexibility, range of motion, balance and coordination, posture, respiration, skin integrity, motor function, quality of life, and activities of daily living. Physical therapists also determine a patient's ability to reintegrate into the workforce or community after illness or injury.
PURPOSE: The Physical Therapist is there to create rehabilitation programs and treatment plans for patients with injuries and/or illnesses to improve their physical function and quality of life.
PRIMARY JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Evaluate and treat patients referred to the department
- Identify and meet patient goals, educate patients on safety and prevention
- Develop care plans using a variety of treatment techniques
- Design cost effective treatments and reduce the need for medications and get the patients motivated to return to their prior level of function optimally
- Create fitness and well oriented programs tailored to patient’s needs
- Promote client’s healthy lifestyle by improving strength, flexibility, movement, balance and coordination
- Consult and practice with other health care professionals
- Evaluate treatment results and monitor and communicate progress
- Document patient care services.
- Perform and Document an initial exam, evaluate data to identify problems and determine a diagnosis prior to intervention.
- Plan, prepare and carry out individually designed programs of physical treatment to maintain, improve or restore physical functioning, alleviate pain and prevent physical dysfunction in patients.
- Monitor physical therapist assistant and physical therapist aide on productivity and patient care
OTHER JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Record prognosis, treatment, response, and progress in patients chart
- Identify and document goals, anticipated progress and plans
- Ensure all Diagnosis codes are entered into chart for billing purposes
- Review and sign off on Physical Therapist Assistant documentation in EMR system
